Every year preceding an ICOM General Conference, an International Symposium is held in the host city to introduce the main themes. For the first time, this pre-conference will be hybrid, opening the doors for a wider, international participation. ICOM Prague International Symposium 2021 will provide an overview of the upcoming ICOM Prague 2022 General Conference, from the axis of the scientific programme to the new hybrid infrastructure.

This session will tackle the role museums can play as active members of society, with regards to defending human rights and promoting social engagement and political involvement.

Sustainability: Museums and resilience
This session will explore how museums can contribute to the development of a more sustainable society, focusing in particular on the climate emergency and the development of sustainable funding models for cultural institutions.
11.15 – 11.45
Vision: Museum and leadership
This session will investigate how resilient, adaptable and creative museum leadership can navigate times of crisis and facilitate the development of new business models for museums.
11.45 – 12.15
Delivery: Museums and new technologies
This session will evaluate the impact of new technologies on audience engagement, museum learning, the protection of collections and visitors and the overall museum experience.

"One Hour for Questions" - online
The Symposium will be live broadcasted online on 26 August from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. CEST upon registration. The presentations will be in English and Czech, with simultaneous translation.
